Edmond Welling Holm
September 4, 1930 – January 1, 2018
It is with great sadness that we say a final good-bye to Ed Holm—horticulturist, teacher, volunteer, consultant, speaker, author, mentor and above all, our dear friend.
Ed’s love of plants and tending to them through the physical act of gardening was a passion instilled in him as a child. He developed San Mateo High School’s renowned horticultural program and would boast of his former students who entered the fields of landscape architecture, botany and the nursery business.
After 35 years of teaching biology and horticulture at San Mateo High School, Wegman’s Nursery was honored to have Ed share his 30+ years of knowledge, experience and passion with the Wegman family, the staff at Wegman’s Nursery and a multitude of customers.
Mr. Ed, as he was known at Wegman’s, shared his love and invaluable insight into the ever-expanding science of horticulture and his firsthand experience with gardening. Along with his kind personality and keen sense of humor, many customers would look solely to Mr. Ed for answers to countless questions, knowing they would walk away with more know-how and usually a plant or two in hand. It was not unheard of for people to enter the store as patrons and leave as friends who shared in the delight of Mr. Ed’s love of gardening.
We will all miss you, Mr. Ed!
